Here is a beautiful antique Victorian-era face fireplace screen. These were placed on table tops to protect ladies faces from the heat of the fireplace. The screen has intricate embroidered flowers in various shades of blue along with leaves, and in the center there appears to be a cluster of wheat. The border is decorated with black and tan cord and tassels. The back of the screen is a solid piece of tan silk.
Including the stand, it measures 19.5" tall and 9.5" wide. The screen itself is 8.5" tall by 7.25" (not including the bottom tassels).
The condition overall is decent for its age. The embroidered section is missing some thread in some spots - see photos. The back silk panel has some holes and discoloration. The base is also missing, but a handy person would be able to construct something new to allow this to be displayed properly.
A rare find!
