This beautiful demitasse cup was made in Germany by Carl Tielsch in the late 1800s. The saucer has been paired with this cup, but I don't believe it actually goes with it. It does look nice for display purposes though. The cup is marked but the saucer is not.
This lovely little cup would be used for serving strong coffees, such as espresso. Demitasse means "half cup" in French. The cup is decorated with a finely detailed violet and yellow floral design and includes a gilded handle. There is a lovely embossed pattern around the lip and base of the cup as well as around the rim of the saucer. The saucer features finely painted purple flowers.
Both the cup and saucer are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The gilt decorations are a little worn consistent with the age of the piece. The cup measures 2.5" tall and the saucer is 4" in diameter.
